## You

my first memory of writing a poem. 2002?

The feeling man,
(dedicated to the blind man that I pass on my morning commute)

I see him on my way to busyness.
His clothes reveal his indifference for mirrors.
I recognize his shuffle.
It’s the one I use on midnight excursions through my
darkened world:
Short, tentative steps moving forward, but poised to retract
at the first hint of danger.
Deftly his hand commands a long antennae as he feels his
way across the busy street.
Inward, I search for the feelings of this gentle pedestrian.
I feel the cacophony of hurried traffic.
I taste its acrid belch.
Loneliness overwhelms my emotions…
my heart aches…
my eyes water.
His courage is my solace.
Visceral strength-
to let go with the eyes and feel one’s way.

## Agent

You shared your first remembered poem, written around 2002. It describes seeing a blind man on your morning commute—his clothes, his tentative shuffle with the cane, the traffic around him—and the inward ache that followed, ending with his courage as a kind of solace.

I’m here with that.
